The Rudd Labor Government today announced $375,000 towards the redevelopment of Launceston’s Prospect Park.
The Prospect Park redevelopment will help to build healthier and stronger communities and a stronger future for Tasmania.
The redevelopment will include:
- additional playing fields at the sporting complex;
- the installation of new lights; and
- the resurfacing and installation of drainage and irrigation infrastructure.
The development will support the increasing sporting and recreational needs of the Meander Valley’s eastern region and meet the demands of the rapidly growing young community.
Federal Labor is serious about investing in regional and local communities and helping them to meet future challenges and opportunities.
The Member for Bass Geoff Lyons has been a fierce advocate for the Prospect Park upgrade and instrumental in securing this funding.
Prospect Park is the regional headquarters to the Northern Tasmania Touch Football Association and home of the Launceston City Soccer Club.
With more than 3,000 regular users a year, the park is an important open space for recreation, linking fitness trails to the community.
The funds for the project are from the latest round of the Regional Development Australia Fund. Funding for this project is already included in the budget.
